LA MIRADA, Calif. – On a clear, yet warm and humid day, the Cal Lutheran women’s cross country team lined up against league opponents for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual meet, finishing 2-6 as a team.

Although the Regals have faced many of the conference teams during preseason meets, today it counted with 25 percent of the overall standings coming from points earned at La Mirada Park this morning. The remaining 75 percent of the team points will be tallied from finishes at the SCIAC Championships later this month.

Leading the way in the first league competition of the fall was junior Sarah Parsons who navigated the 5K course in 24:05.76. The second CLU runner across the line was Hannah Yoho. The sophomore made up some ground and powered past a number of runners in the third mile and finished in 24:56.27.

In her first SCIAC meet, Erin Knight was the third scoring time in 25:24.79 with sophomore Sarah Girgis pulling in fourth for the Regals with a time of 25:39.68, which was two seconds faster than her time on the same course a year ago.

One of the biggest improvement today on the course that features many rolling hills was sophomore Katie Young who shaved 23 seconds off her 2014 time of 26:36.9 to finish in 26:13.5 today for the Violet and Gold.

Kylie Rodriguez continued to acclimate herself to the collegiate level, producing a solid run for the Regals as she completed the course today in 27:54.00.

Individually, Pomona-Pitzer junior Maya Weigel was the fastest woman today, running a time of 21:30.48 to win by 19 seconds.

Cal Lutheran will have two weeks to prepare for the SCIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Prado Park in Chino Hills, Calif. The Regals will run at 9:00 a.m.
