CLAREMONT, Calif. – Toeing the line for the third time of the fall, the Cal Lutheran women’s cross country team competed against a stacked field at the Seventh Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational this morning. In the first 6K race of the year, the Regals placed 12th after averaging 24:53.44 as a unit.
A trio of runners shaved time of her 2014 showing on the course while four others ran the Pomona-Pitzer course for the first time.
Katie Young showed the most improvement from last season at this race, clocking a time of 26:24.87 today, which was two minutes and 33 seconds faster than her 2014 time (28:57.80). Today was the first time Young suited up for the Violet and Gold in 2015. Sarah Girgis also took off more than a minute and 25 seconds from her inaugural PP Invitational time, going a 25:16.50 this morning. Lauren Chrislu clocked a time of 29:24.01, a time that was 13seconds better than her 2014 showing.
Navigating the campus course for the first time today were Tera Beyerlein, Erin Knight, Kylie Rodriguez and Hannah Yoho. Beyerlein was the second CLU harrier home in 24:38.86 with Yoho finishing third in 24:28.08 while Knight notched the fourth and final scoring spot after going 25:05.40.
On a fast, mostly flat course, Sarah Parsons navigated in the fastest time for the Regals in 24:28.33. Parsons has been the lead runner in all three Cal Lutheran meets to date this fall.
The individual champion today was Karis Frankian from The Master’s in a time of 21:20.66. The team title went to Cal Poly Pomona as three of their top four finishers were among the Top-10.
Cal Lutheran is now out of competition for two weeks until the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 9:00 a.m. in La Mirada Park.
