SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Suiting up for the second time this season, the Cal Lutheran women’s cross country team finished 12th at the 2014 Mustang Challenge hosted by The Master’s College at Central Park this morning.

Running without a lot of the upperclassmen, the Regals combined for a pace of 20:47.9 in the 5K race, led by freshman Hannah Yoho. Pacing the squad through the hills and around the park was Yoho whose time of 19:40.6 was a 40 second improvement from her first collegiate race two weeks ago to place 53rd.

With a trio of runners breaking the 20-minute mark, Kendahl Waalk and Sarah Parsons joined Yoho by clocking times of 19:49.7 and 19:58.2, respectively. Sarah Girgis was the next CLU harrier across the line, finishing in 21:41.0. The final scoring came from Katie Young as she completed the course in 22:49.8.

Brieanna Luna, Lauren Chrislu and Kelsey Lewis all competed for the Violet and Gold today as well.

Sacramento State won the team title today with an average of 18:42.0. Second place went to CSU San Marcos and The Master’s pulled up in third. The individual champion came from the host school, TMC, as Karis Frankian navigated the course in 17:53.3 as the only woman to break 18-minutes. She won the race by nearly 20 full seconds.

CLU was the only Division III team competing as the field was packed with Division I, II, junior college and NAIA opponents.

Cal Lutheran will be back to competition on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. Teams will toe the line at 7:45 a.m.
