NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Cal Lutheran women’s cross country squad has been named a 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team. CLU’s selection marked the second consecutive season the Regals have earned the team award.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the squad must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and have earned a score (finished at least five runners) at its respective NCAA regional championships.
Cal Lutheran concluded its season with an eighth place finish at the NCAA West Regionals after placing third at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The Regals sent two competitors to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country National Champions in Ashley Frese and Melissa Skiba. At the National Championships, Skiba earned All-America honors for the second time in her career after finishing seventh in a field of 269.
The Regals third place performance as a team at the 2013 SCIAC Championships was its best overall finish since its first year in the conference in 1991. Competing alongside Frese and Skiba was Natalie Bullock, Jess Infald, Amanda Miller, Sarah Parson and Taelor Young.
